In case your wondering…Why the website switcheroo?
I just learned a valuable lesson.
Which is: If you ever create a website, register it in your name!
Sounds like a no brainer right? Well I didn’t and when the registration ran out. the website disappeared.
So when I created this new domain I did all the boring stuff that I had paid someone else to do. Which turned out to be not as difficult as I thought. Time consuming, yes, spending time on hold with customer service, yes, making mistakes, yes. It took me about two days to do what my web developer would have done in seconds. I never dreamed that I would ever lose touch with that person, but it happened.
So the lesson for me is: do it yourself, if you can.
In early July I weathered a storm in a Connecticut cabin that knocked out the power for 3 days, no running water, not toilet, no refrigerator, no cooking or anything.
Fortunately neighbors came to my rescue. I’m already friends with most of them, a nice lady across the street gave me water and a friend up the road gave me a hot meal and shower and let me charge my phone. I was so lucky to have these folks because I was completely unprepared. I had no candles or anything and so when the sun went down so did I. When I got back to the city (NYC) I bought two new power banks, so I will definitely be prepared next time.
There is a well known saying:
“You never miss your water till your well runs dry”
If there isn’t one for electricity there should be.
My version: “You never miss your power till you’re stranded in Connecticut”
This experience made me feel so helpless, but it’s all about good prepping and doing what needs to get done, similar to my website snafu, it’s just about taking care of business, being self reliant, and I’ve got it now.
I feel much more prepared, and I have peace of mind.
